What I think of Social Networking?

To me it is the combination of individuals in to precise groups like small countryside communities or neighbourhood sector. When it comes to online Social Networking, websites are the medium which are commonly used. These websites are called as Social Sites. These function like an online community of internet users. Depending on the website in question, many of these online community members share common interests, hobbies etc. Once you are granted access to social networking website you can start getting socialized.

Now I will try to be a bit simple and explain what I wrote above. Basically networks get things done. Sending a letter or wiring your home, just think how you reach your home from the town. You come across a network of roads aren’t you? Likewise people networks help us to find friends, jobs, formal contacts etc. For example say you are looking for a job. Bob who is the neighbour of your friend can offer you a job. Yey!! There you go the friend’s network has offered you the job.

The problem of the social networks of the real world is     most of the connections between people are hidden. Your network may have huge potential but its only as valuable as the people and the connections that you see. This is where social network comes in. This helps you to see the connections are hidden between people.

Question is HOW DOES IT WORK?

You sign up to a free account and fill up your profile. Then you find for the people you know.  When you find them you add them to your friends list. NOW you and the people connected with you have a connection which other people in that site can see. In this way you will get to know who the connections of you friends are and your friend’s friends. Really cool!! This is all about SOCIAL NETWORKING...

Whats twitter all about to me?

For a second just think about what is the very first question will you ask when you make a call to your best friend? What I ask is “What are you doing?” You really don’t care what the answer is but still it’s very interesting to ask that. Why? Thats because you are interested to know whether your friend or family is up to something interesting. This makes you and the friend or family connected to each other. But sadly nowadays these above mentioned connections are hidden by the routines of our day today life. Of course we do have ways such as phone, email etc to keep this connection alive but you won’t send a friend an email just to inform that you are having an ice cream. And just to tell that you enjoyed it too much. And same time your friend may not have the requirement of knowing that either. But what about the people who are interested about the simple things happening in your life? And for them... this is where twitter comes in to use.

Organizational Culture and Its Importance

The fashionable meaning of Organizational Culture includes
  • What is valued
  • The leadership style
  • The language and symbols
  • The procedures and routines
The Organizational Culture is a detailed collection of standards and norms that are shared by people and groups in an organization. It controls the way they act together with each other and with stakeholders outside the organization. The organizational values are;  viewpoint and thoughts, about, what kinds of goals community of an organization should follow and the appropriate kinds or principles of behaviour that community should use to accomplish these goals. From organizational standards develops organizational norms, strategy or potential that prescribe appropriate kinds of behaviour by people in particular situations and control the behaviour of organizational members towards one another.

Below are significant key elements of an Organizational Culture:
  • It targets attention on the human side of organizational life, and finds significance and learning in even its     most usual aspects.
  • It illuminates the weight of creating suitable systems of shared meaning to assist people work together toward     most wanted outcomes.

Organizational culture is perhaps the most critical cause determining an organization's ability, efficiency, and longevity. It also contributes significantly to the organization's brand image and brand promise. Organizational Culture creates power and thrust. The power will flood the organization and create a new thrust for success. The above-mentioned consequence of organizational culture ropes the intention that, in this spirited and globalized corporate scenario, there is huge need of organizational development strategy at various personnel departments, as this can improve the company's culture.

Month June - SRI LANKA

Poson Poya is second in importance to Vesak since it commemorates the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka in 247BC. The focus of this festival is the ancient capital of the country, Anuradhapura, and the mountainous Mihintale  Temple, reached by 1,840 steps, where King Devanampiyatissa was converted to Buddhism in the third century BC. During Poson, the mountain is illuminated and devotees climb the steps in their thousands to pay homage to the event.

The climate of Sri Lanka is tropical with two distinct seasons, a dry and a wet season. The country is influenced by two monsoons: the south-west monsoon blowing between May and August, is the most intense of the two and brings rain along the southern coast and western and central highlands, and the north-east monsoon blowing between October and January, bringing rain along the coasts of northern and eastern Sri Lanka. Areas north and east of the country are the most arid and receive between 600 mm and 1200 mm of rain a year.

Meetings and Minutes (Making them more Effective)

Well run meetings uphold full participation in decision-making, drawing on the group’s accumulated experience and expertise. Active contribution in turn improves the success of meetings. Effective meetings can reinforce the team and improves communication. Poor meetings, on the other hand, are exasperating and can be negative. The minutes of meetings are very important management tools. They are the official record of measures, portion also as the legal record, and provide reference material for all. Clear and correct minutes, distributed on time, are thus as important as the meetings themselves!

WHY DO WE HOLD MEETINGS??

For giving and receiving information, To Decide What to and how to do, For getting and giving support to each other.

What can be done to prepare for meetings?

Initially you need to clearly identify the purpose of the meeting. Second you need to identify the participants who can really add most value for the discussion. Decide on the best date and time checking with the participants in a way they are not disturbed. Decide on the duration of the meeting. You need to communicate all the information to members and circulate the meeting agenda in good time, early enough to ensure all can attend and make the meeting valuable for everyone.

How can you make your meeting a success?

Initially you should be on time. It is highly disrespectful to others to arrive late. Respect the chairperson and always respond through the chairperson. Listen to and respect the opinion of others, even if there is disagreement which means disagree without being disagreeable. You should take a stand and state your opinions on issues. Do not sit on fence, it is unhelpful to progress. You should always share opinions on matters under discussion in a cleat relevant way without repetition and undue length. Express agreement with points made without repeating the whole point. You should learn to accept defeat if your point isn’t accepted by the majority or make them majority convinced trying out different paths. Avoid personalizing issues. Discuss the topic not the individuals. Be constructive and positive. When discussing sensitive or emotive issues strive to remain calm and rational. Respect confidential information and discussions. Ensure that all appropriate information is passed to those you are representing.

In Closing...

Effective meetings should
  • Support People
  • Build Teams
  • Share Information
  • Take decisions which lead to action
 REMEMBER

Meetings are expensive processes, especially when all the salaries are considered. Invest sufficient time in the preparations and run every meeting in a business-like way. Effective and efficient meetings can contribute much to successful service delivery.
